Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Course
The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Course
The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course is totally redesigned for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital. Through the ACLS course, providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) Course
The Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) course was designed, because AHA recognized a gap in the number of healthcare providers who see pediatric patients, but do not take PALS because it is too advanced.

The main focus of PEARS is prevention, and specifically, the assessment, recognition and stabilization of pediatric victims at risk of severe cardiopulmonary distress. Through unique learning tools, such as video-based simulation, providers can see and hear critically ill children with whom they do not typically come in contact, equipping them to recognize the symptoms of pediatric victims, and thus begin stabilization prior to arrest.

The course is video based with instructor-led discussion and simulation. Students participate in, practice and complete various skills and learning stations and are required to pass skills tests, as well as a written test. Key topics covered are:

    • Pediatric assessment
    • Respiratory compromise and arrest recognition and management
    • Circulatory compromise and arrest recognition and management
    • Shock recognition and management
    • Resuscitation team concept

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course
The completely redesigned American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based on new science evidence from the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC and a new teaching methodology. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

        Neonatal Resuscitation Program
The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is an American Heart Association/American Academy of Pediatrics credentialed course, focusing on the initial assessment and management of the newborn. NRP is designed to teach an evidence-based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are carefully explained so that health professionals may develop optimal knowledge.

Course participants will learn a systematic approach to the initial assessment of the newborn and the corrective action that may need to be taken. This course has been designed to teach an evidence-based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are carefully explained so that health professionals may develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation.

Following each powerpoint slide presentation, there will be a question and answer session facilitated by the instructor. The participant will then take a post-test over that particular section. Where applicable, participants will have the opportunity to practice their skills in assessing and managing the newborn with a variety of problems. A final newborn "megacode" will validate the participant's ability to manage a distressed newborn.

          Heartsaver AED
The Heartsaver AED with Pediatric CPR Course teaches the basic techniques of adult CPR and use of an AED. Pediatric CPR skills may be taught if students live or work in a setting where children are present. Students also learn to use barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking for responsive adult, child and infant victims.

            Heartsaver First Aid
The Heartsaver First Aid Course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course also provides corporations with a complete health and safety training solution for First Aid, CPR and AED.

The Heartsaver First Aid Course has been developed using the same evidence-based process as all American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care courses.

The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult CPR and AED.

              ECG and Pharmacology
Specifically designed to address a key knowledge gap in Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Pharmacology, the American Heart Association’s Adult ECG and Pharmacology Course is a new program focused on specific ECG recognition skills and drug treatment knowledge. This is a pre-course option for ACLS students and other healthcare providers, and is also for ACLS students who need to improve after the ACLS pre-course self-assessment test.

The course is divided into two modules – one for ECG and one for Pharmacology – which can be taught together or separately, depending on the need. Skills taught in the ECG module include heart anatomy, basic electrophysiology, normal ECG measurements and basic arrhythmias. The Pharmacology module covers basic ACLS drugs and usage; drugs, doses and routes of administration during cardiovascular emergencies; and integrating basic drug pharmacology into ACLS algorithms

                Airway Management
The American Heart Association Airway Management Course is a new and unique program specifically designed to give students the opportunity to learn, practice and demonstrate many airway skills used in resuscitation. Healthcare providers whose occupation or volunteer activities require airway management skills, in addition to professionals in the field of resuscitation and airway management such as scientists, educators, researchers, and manufacturers of medical devices may find the course beneficial.

The learning model for this course includes video-guided instruction, skills practice, and testing. Airway Management includes five modules one required module and four optional for facilitators to combine based on student need and scope of practice. The five modules are:
                • Bag-Mask Ventilation and Airway Adjuncts (required)
                • Laryngeal Mask Airway
                • Esophageal-Tracheal Combitube
                • Endotracheal Tube
                • Impedance Threshold Device

                * This course does not provide certification, but instead is designed solely to enhance students’ airway management skills.
